'Mini Tollbooth' is inspired by a novel called Phantom Tollbooth. The film adaptation from 1961 is so beautiful. I like to get lost in these childish worlds of freedom, where everything is possible. This modern fairy tale is about a young boy named Milo who is bored by the world around him. He feels everything is a waste of time. He comes home from school one day to find in his bedroom an anonymous package containing a miniature tollbooth and a map of the Lands Beyond. He takes the map, drives through in his toy car, and instantly finds himself driving on a road to Expectations. Enjoying the ride, he pays no attention to his route and soon becomes lost in the Doldrums, a colorless place where thinking and laughing are not allowed. He is having plenty more adventures like watching Chroma the Great conduct his orchestra in playing the colors of the sunset or meeting The Awful Dynne, a genie who collects noises for Dr. Dischord. - fLako

Das höchstgeschätzte Label Eglo Records ist euch hier im Blog schon häufiger über den Weg gelaufen und hat (zumindest bei uns) meistens Begeisterungsstürme hervorgerufen. Weitere Großtaten des kleinen Londoner Imprints stehen bevor, so dass an dieser Stelle auch gerne auf ein paar Kollegen verwiesen werden kann, die sich an diesen Tagen alle verstärkt dem Thema widmen. Zum einen wären da Resident Advisor, die im Juli Eglo als "Label Of The Month" küren und den Werdegang des Labels unter die Lupe nehmen sowie Alex Nut exklusiv an die Regler lassen. (Download) Das Red Bull Music Academy-Radio hingegen lässt die wichtigsten Vertreter des Labels (Alex Nut, Floating Points, FunkinEven, Fatima & Shuanise) gleich in einem Fireside Chat selbst zu Wort kommen und präsentiert nebenbei deren wichtigsten Veröffentlichungen. Sam Shepherd, seines Zeichen das in den vergangenen Monaten meist gerühmte Aushängeschild des Labels,wird gar solo vernommen. Die Kollegen vom Fact Magazine greifen das ganze auf und sind schon ganz wuschig auf das bevorstehende Floating Points-Ensemble Album, das irgendwann im Winter auf Ninja Tune erscheinen soll. Nicht zu verdenken, wer ist das nicht?

Droppin' Mirrors is a musical cross-section of past collaborations, as well as a glimpse of projects to come. But what makes this compilation special? The tracks featured are no mere licensed releases, nor are they a "Best Of" of ThinkLoud's back catalogue. Droppin' Mirrors contains almost nothing but exclusive productions. These are the natural result of joint shows with, and tours managed by ThinkLoud's DJ Conikt across Germany and Europe. They managed to get artists like Aloe Blacc (Stones Throw), Kev Brown (Up Above), Grand Agent (Superrappin'), or Oddisee (Diamond District) on board. At the same time, young and talented artists like Portformat, Shuanise, Fid Mella, and others have found their way onto the album. They embody the very sound we are aiming for. A major portion of the songs was composed by in-house producer Stroe, and recorded together with the guest artists in Berlin. The result is a genre-crossing product that transcends its roots in Rap, Experimental, and neo-Soul. Droppin' Mirrors sets sail towards electronically fragmented, soulful beats, deconstructivist arrangements, and unconventional ideas to let a charm of its own flourish.
