First of all, we want to thank so many people who made this thing possible. Much love to all the artists who came to do their thing and rock the crowd - Comfort Fit doing a great workshop and also a dope live-show, fLako playing an incredible live-set and Robot Koch, who tore the venue down on saturday night - but also Blue Daisy, Jeremiah Jae and Teebs who all stretched musical boundaries a little further with their abstract and atmospheric styles on sunday. Big respect goes to all the beatheads participating in the challenge - all of your performances were incredible and everyone of you truly was a winner that night. This event is officially kicking off our artist-network “Finest Ego” (http://www.finestego.com), a new platform and community for up-and-coming young and innovative producers and music-lovers in and around the constantly changing and evolving bass music continuum.
On March 19th and 20th, some of the most active and prolific international producers as well as unknown young talents from all around Europe will come together in the club “Chez Jacki” (Maria am Ostbahnhof) on the banks of the river Spree. Whilst, on Saturday afternoon, renowned producers will host workshops and give insight into their music creation process and production-techniques, the programm for the evening is filled with exclusive live-acts on both days. Robot Koch, fLako, Blue Daisy, Comfort Fit and the two Flying Lotus proteges Teebs and Jeremiah Jae represent the future of hiphop in a fascinating unique way and have developed a new sound, which at the same time ties in 30 years of hiphop tradition, whilst also connecting to the abstract structures of electronic music and the depth of clubmusic. Teebs, Blue Daisy and Jeremiah Jae have never before played live in Germany and are visiting Berlin exclusively for the “Finest Ego Weekend”.
Central part of the event is the “Beatmaker Challenge”, which gives young producers the opportunity to not only showcase their music in front of an international live-audience but to also win studiogear from Native Instruments, Clothing / Headphones from Wesc, Acrylick, Mishka and a record deal with Finest Ego Records and Project: Mooncircle.

(Monkey Sequence 19 – Summer Blu)
Ein leuchtendes Abendrot, die letzten warmen Sonnenstrahlen begleiten mich in die Nacht und Summer Blu lässt die überfüllten Straßen von Berlin in sanfter Ruhe ausklingen. Ach, wie kitschig und trotzdem kennen wir wohl alle diese Momente. Monkey Sequence 19 sei Dank! Das Drumset klingt fluffig und liebevoll arrangiert, so das fast jeder Sample darauf Platz finden könnte. Ich habe erstmals 2004 einige solide Tracks gehört und generell ist eine enorme Steigerung der Produktionsweise zu hören. Klar geht es auf den neueren Produktionen etwas trendgerecht in Madlib oder Dilla Richtungen, aber es stört mich nicht, denn eins klappt da etwas besser. Es klingt nach richtiger Musik und durchdachten Arrangements. Durch diverse Blu features hat das Label Wonderful Noise ziemlich zügig den Weltmarkt erreicht. Großartiges Album und ein wunderbarer Song. Im kommenden hhv.de Magazin werden wir noch näheres über die japanischen Basements erfahren. Buy
(Blundetto – Voices)
Würde ich Dagga konsumieren, dann wäre das wohl der richtige Soundtrack dazu. Es klingt so jung, dreckig, verraucht und dann doch wiederrum schüchtern... Diese leckere 7 Inch hat mir den guten Dub wieder näher gebracht und die B-Seite ist ebenfalls edel. Der Glanz ist diese Vielfalt, der Rhytmus ist mir schon immer geläufig. Das Album Bad Bad Things schwächelt in meinen Ohren, aber egal! Beide 7 Inches zum neuen Album sind pures Dope! Buy
(Shlohmo – Spoons)
Er zählt momentan zu meinen absoluten lieblingen in dieser ganzen LA Wulzt. Er hat was eigenes und man erkennt seine Tunes meistens sofort heraus. Allein diese Baselines erblicken nur in Shlohmo's Händen so das Tageslicht. Trotz der ganzen wuchtigen Elemente gibt er einem genügend Zeit um Luft zu holen, ohne gleich total wie Flying Lotus in atmosphärischen Endlosschleifen zu versinken. Buy
(Asusu – Taurean)
Lange, monotone Dubplates prägen den heutigen Berghain Sound von Techno und Dubstep. Ich bin kein großer Fan davon, nach fast 5 Minuten immer noch auf dem gleichen Tune rumzulatschen, aber so mancher Produzent bekommt doch die Kurve. Der 21 jährige Asusu alias Craig Stennet gibt mir persönlich ausreichend Schwung um sich mit langen Tracks über Wasser halten zu können. Seine fesselnden Backrounds filtern mir diesen klaren Sound von Snares oder Hiats, der mir ebenfalls manchmal zu viel ist. Buy
(Oddisee – City Lights)
Einschlafen und nicht mehr aufwachen wollen. Lyrisch vielleicht nicht so schön wie Manuva's "Nachtschattengewächs", aber egal, denn da stimmt einfach alles. Ich bin mir nicht sicher ob dieses Instrumental auch von Stroe produziert wurde, aber wenn das so ist, dann gebe ich hiermit dicke Props an ihn raus! Das Album Droppin' Mirrors des deutschen Labels Think Loud ist mir etwas zu Platt, denn so manche Features will und kann ich einfach nicht mehr hören. Trotzdem gibt es für mich 3 Highlights und das reicht heutzutage schon völlig aus, um sich für das Vinyl zu entscheiden. Buy
(Joe Kickass Feat. Arts The Beatdoctor of The Q4 - Gratitude)
Ein bißchen was aus dem eingenen Hause muss schon sein, denn wenn wir das nicht mögen würden, wäre es nicht bei uns erschienen. Zu Arts The Beatdoctor muss man nicht viel sagen, denn alles was er bis jetzt veröffentlichte wurde ein Erfolg. Ob sein Solo Album "Transitions" (Japan Charts) oder sein Projekt The Q4. Alles hat ein Gesicht und doch unterschiedliche Begegnungen, wie auch mit Kickass, der nun nicht gerade ein typisches Beispiel für seine Features ist. Joe findet seinen Platz und spätestens wenn das wunderbare Saxophon einsetzt ist es sowieso um mich geschehen. Dieser Beat würde jeden Mc unterstreichen, ohne Kickass (vor allem Lyrisch) missachten zu wollen. Buy
(Daisuke Tanabe – Singing Grass)
Ja, ja, Gordon und sein Japan, aber Hey, die sind einfach FRESH und öfters ein bißchen schneller und wenn sie was kopieren, dann versuchen sie das Original noch besser zu machen! So mancher Producer aus Europa klingt 1:1 wie sein Vorbild und dann ist es Zeit für mich, die Nadel wieder in die Halterung zu legen. Ich schweife ab, denn dieser Song von Daisuke Tanabe ist KILLER und zusätzlich auf einem deutschen Label namens KI Records. Macht mich voll Stolz, echt wunderbar, wenn wir sowas hier beherbergen. Was kommt noch? Ich will bitte mehr hören!! Buy

Meine persönliche Hymne auf Hemlock 2010. Knackig, abstrakt und ich verstehe den Hype absolut, denn man kommt einfach aus diesem Vibe nicht mehr heraus. Buy
(Kryptic Minds – Torn)
Dieses gute Stück scheint nicht mehr auf die 3-fach LP von One Of Us gepasst zu haben und daher gab es den kostenlosen Download. Ich habe mich gefreut und gleichzeitig ein wenig geärgert, denn so etwas muss auf schwarzes Gold! Monotonie pur, fast schleppend wird man hier von verschiedenen seichten Synthies gefüttert. Buy
