Die erste weiße Künstlerin auf Barry Gordys Motown-Label, Protegé und Geliebte von Rick James, begnadete Multiinstrumentalistin und von manchen auch als eine Art weibliches Pendant zu Prince genannt. Teena Marie war vieles, reich an Talenten und in den letzten Jahren (im Zuge der Boogie-Euphorie) verdientermaßen wieder stärker mit Aufmerksamkeit bedacht. Dennoch blieb sie den meisten doch irgendwie nur als Samplelieferant für die Fugees oder The Firm bekannt. Gestern ist Teena Marie im Alter von 54 Jahren verstorben. Ruhe in Frieden, Lady T.
