ICON Club Berlin | Berliner Senat will die Schließung zum 1.1.2011

Einer absoluten Club-Istitution droht in Berlin die Schließung. Diesmal betrifft es den ICON Club. In einem offenen Brief wendet sich das ICON an seine Freunde:
"Liebe Freude,
Wir sind eine der Institutionen im Berliner Nachtleben, mit dem der Senat nur zu gern wirbt. Das bringt der Stadt Geld – uns bringt das leider gar nichts. Zum 01.01.2011 wird uns die Konzession entzogen.
Ein Neubau direkt nebenan – modernes Wohnen im Prenzlauer Berg – teuer und schick. Ein Club vor der Tür passt da leider nicht ins Bild. Zu viele Beschwerden der neuen Anwohner – nicht wegen zu lauter Musik, sondern wegen der Leute auf dem Bürgersteig. Das Bezirksamt Pankow von Berlin verfügt: Wir müssen gehen.
Damit wird erneut ein Stück Berliner Clubkultur zerstört.
Bis Ende des Jahres machen wir weiter wie zuvor und werden alle unsere Lieblings-DJs einladen, noch einmal mit uns die heiligen Hallen zu rocken.
Am 31.12.2010 wird es ein letztes Mal “Icon goes…” geben. Die Woche davor werden wir feiern bis zum Umfallen.
Wir haben neue Pläne und Ideen, um unseren Traum mit unseren Freunden weiterzuleben. Und wir werden alles dransetzen, weiterhin jenseits von Mainstream und falscher Coolness mit qualitativ hochwertigen Bookings in intimer Atmosphäre all jenen, die uns bisher begleitet haben, ein neues Zuhause zu schaffen.
Aber wir werden noch kämpfen! Wir bekamen Hilfe von den Politikern - sie wollen uns als eine subkulturelle Institution erhalten. Sie glauben, das ICON sei wichtig für Berlin. Auch unser Publikum aktiviert nun all seine Kräfte.

On January 1st, 2011, it's all over!
ICON is an institution in Berlin's nightlife. A nightlife the city administration loves mentioning in its bid to attract tourists and investors. That brings the city money – but it brings us nothing. On January 1st, 2011, our license is being withdrawn.
A new appartment block has been built next door – modern living in Prenzlauer Berg – chic and expensive. Having a club as neighbours doesn't fit into that picture. There've been too many complaints from the new residents, not due to loud music, but because of the people on the sidewalk. The authorities of Berlin's Pankow district have decreed: we have to go.
That destroys another piece of Berlin's world-famous club culture.
Until the end of the year, we'll be soldiering on, inviting all our favourite DJs to rock our hallowed halls. On December 31st, 2010, there'll be one last "Icon goes …" . And we'll be dancing till we drop during the entire week leading up to that final event.
Meanwhile, we're working on new plans and ideas to keep our dream alive with the friends who've accompanied us so far. We'll leave no stone unturned in our bid to find a new home for high-quality bookings beyond mainstream false coolness and for the intimate atmosphere you've come to expect.
But we are also still fighting! We got help from politicians - they want to keep us as an subcultural institution. They believe that ICON is important for Berlin. Also our crowd started to activate all their power.
