hhv.de - Each One Teach One #004 - Who's Quakes?
22 May 2010

Quakes was born in Ghana, and lived for long periods in both France and Germany, where he did his first live performances. Before he got on wax, he also performed in France, England, America and Ghana, where he earned his rep in the nineties when he took on Ghana’s then no.1 emcee, Rehji Rockstone in a notorious freestyle battle.
The first act to come out on SON with his single 'Renaissance Man'/'Fat Track Format' released in February '98, he followed it up with the Mad Doctor X-produced 'Capital Visions' (b/w 'In A Court') in June '98. He also batted first in the Mad Doctor's epic posse cut 'Deejays & Emcees' released in October '98, featuring alongside The Brotherhood, Tenor Fly and Blak Twang. His last releases on Son were the classic 'Neptune' EP (providing some French flavour in 'Histoire De Q' alongside the tale of a chance encounter between Q, and Neptune, the god of the sea), and the bishop-baiting 'What Is G.O.D?', a lucid and rational reflection on the ills of organised religion over Mad Doctor X's finesse production on the 'Project X Pt. II' EP.
Resident in London for a few years, during which time he recorded his classic Son tracks, Quakes has since returned to Ghana, where he lives the life of an international playboy..
